Merry Christmas

Unusual Christmas: Angels, Dreams, and Revelations

The first Christmas was an unusual period, different for many people. Visits by angels, dreams with spiritual messages, and revelations from God marked that time. These events probably did not occur around December 25, but surely the arrival of the Savior in the world was a time of revelations that changed the lives of those people. And this Christmas will also be special for you.

Angels

Have you noticed how many angels were sent by God to bring messages at Jesus’ birth? The Gospels report 6 situations in which angels visited Joseph, Mary, Zechariah, and the shepherds in Bethlehem. This frequency is greater than in any other part of biblical history.

The Bible says that angels are beings created by God to serve people who will inherit salvation (Heb. 1:14). The Greek term Angelos means messenger and appears 176 times in the New Testament only. They worship God (Ps 148:2). They do not marry or reproduce, as Jesus stated (Mt 22:30). Angels do not have wings, otherwise people would not have received them in their homes without knowing it (Heb 13:2, Gen 18-19). They look like men but are special messengers from God to serve us.

Have you ever been visited by an angel and didn’t even notice? The issue is not the angels themselves. They are welcome, but the message they announce is what matters to us.

Dreams and Revelations

You can take advantage of this Christmas to talk to your family about being more attentive to the voice of God. He reveals himself to us in different ways. He spoke to his servants in the past, and he also spoke to non-believers like Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar (Gen. 41:28 / Dan 4:5). Not only with the rich, but also with the poor. And the Lord always speaks in a way that we receive profound peace. More than that, we can have a clearer conviction than any other information for or against it. So we just need to be aware.

Imagine Joseph, suddenly leaving with Mary and her baby for a journey of hundreds of miles, between Bethlehem of Judea and Egypt. Before that, receiving Mary as his wife, pregnant with a child that was not his. All of this just because he received a spiritual message. It was no different with the shepherds who visited Jesus in the manger that night when he was born. Not to mention the wise men who presented him sometime later. And together they changed the world.

Each of them paid attention to a spiritual revelation to meet Jesus. And we can also enjoy true divine encounters from the moment we value the messages the Lord sends us.

Get to Know His Voice Better

Today we have the Holy Spirit who helps us in our personal relationship with God, guiding us in peace. He continues to reveal himself also in dreams. And the angels of the Lord continue to work. That is why I believe that this Christmas brings you the opportunity to get to know his voice better, understand, and follow divine directions for your life and family.

We can pray for that and be more attentive to the moving of the Spirit of God. Here at home, for example, we usually pray with our children before going to sleep, giving all the worries and fears to the Lord, and asking him to guard our dreams captive exclusively for his revelations. And we often come across dreams that help us make important decisions about practical everyday matters.

Conclusion

So our invitation to you this Christmas is to call your family to be attentive to the move of God. Develop a better understanding of his voice. Reject everything that is strange and confusing. And pay attention to God’s voice. It is clear, soft, and fills us with peace. Merry Christmas!

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!

Luke 2:14

Prayer: God, thank you so much for sending your Son Jesus to reconcile us with you. I ask you for greater sensitivity to the voice of your Holy Spirit. Please help me to live my whole life enjoying your blessings, for your glory in Christ Jesus. Amen.
