Generosity in Your DNA

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. The Greek word for “only begotten” in John 3:16 is monogene, the same used for genome or DNA. When the Father gave his son Jesus for the salvation of the world, he was not only giving a unique gift, but he was giving himself and his spirit. This is the spirit of generosity.

This Greek word is used 7 times in the Gospels, 4 times referring to Jesus (John 1:14, 18; 3:16, 18). In 3 other quotes, it refers to other people (Lk 7:12; 8:42; 9:38). Also in Hebrews 11:17, the word monogene refers to Isaac being offered by Abraham.

What I mean is that the spirit of generosity that glorifies the Father through Jesus is the same that dwells in you who believe in him as your savior. Whenever the spirit of God is present, generosity is present. And the result is abundant life, peace, and prosperity.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:31,32

The Benefits of Generosity

1. You are Blessed

The generous will prosper. We see in the book of Proverbs several quotes of blessings for one who is generous and shares what he has with his neighbor (3: 9,10; 11:25; 19:17; 22:9). God wants you to be a good steward of what he has entrusted to you so that he can trust you more. And the principle by which blessings will flow richly and abundantly in your life is generosity.

While they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

2 Corinthians 9:14, 15

2. God is Glorified

There is nothing more important in our lives than giving glory to God. The Bible says that we were created for the praise of his glory. And when we fulfill that role, we experience the ultimate revelation of personal satisfaction. When we exchange the ambition to retain for the willingness to share, give, practice generosity, God is always glorified.

By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all other

2 Corinthians 9:13

How to Practice Generosity

1. Sow Generously

The spirit of generosity is not afraid of the future. He does not doubt God’s daily care. So, aware that you are not the owner but the steward, decide to distribute with abundance according to what you have received from God. He will teach you how to distinguish between bread (for you to eat) and seeds (for you to sow). Do not look at the time, the circumstances around you, the crisis that never ends, not even the merit of the recipient. Plant your seeds abundantly!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

2 Corinthians 9:6

2. Sow with Joy

The spirit of generosity is the spirit of joy. That is why God loves those who give, not with grief or out of obligation, but with joy. By giving you join with God in your spirit to bless people around you. Donate not to please people, but to rejoice the heart of God, who has so generously given you. Sow with joy!

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7

3. Harvest to Sow Even More

The spirit of generosity does not give to get back, control, or manipulate. God loves to bless his children. And he loves it when his kids understand they can get more to give, not the other way around. God will be greatly glorified when you start living in that way: receiving from him to share with people. Live in the spirit of generosity, and reap with plenty to sow even more for the glory of God!

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8

Conclusion

The spirit of generosity blesses you and glorifies God at the same time. That’s because God loves to bless his children. And when they understand that the reason for their prosperity is to share, they can sow with joy and abundance because God will be glorified more and more. This is how you, your family, and everyone around you will experience abundant life here and forever.

Prayer: God, thank you so much for your great love. I thank you for sending Jesus and for giving me your Holy Spirit. I give my life to You without reservation and choose to live all your plans for my future, in the spirit of generosity, in Christ Jesus. Amen.
