Although there is only one true God, humanity has created many “gods” for itself. Our society has never been more spiritualized than it is today. This is not just about religion, but an awareness of spiritual reality. In your case, who is the god of your family and how have you connected with him individually and collectively?

What you believe about God and how you deal with it in your home will influence your whole life here and in eternity. This issue is a priority for a successful family. Reflect on this post and you will be challenged to grow in your spirituality together with your family.
The Individual Aspect of Relationship with God
Every human being is a spiritual being. And just as we have physical and emotional needs, we also have spiritual needs. We were created to relate to God. And your life will only be successful once you decide to value this principle.
That moment came in my life when I was still a child, about 10 years old. I was passing through a square while an evangelistic event was taking place. Someone made an invitation to those who wished to live everything that God had planned for their life and I promptly replied: “Yes, I want to!” My life has never been the same, and since then I have enjoyed a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit by communicating with him daily.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Matthew 6:6
Spirituality in the Context of the Biological Family
I do not doubt that my family, in some way, influenced my decision. My mother already knew God, as well as other family members. And I know that they prayed for me and always taught me something about God and his plan of love.
Something interesting about this is that our spirituality is both personal and familiar. The family context has a significant influence on your spirituality, but at some point, your own choice will determine your relationship with God.
Although I have family members of different religions and levels of commitment to their spirituality, just as my own parents have experienced a lot of change in their faith over the years, what I experience is the result of my own choice.
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Acts 16:31
Discover Your Spiritual Family
Another important aspect of the spirituality of our family is that, just as there is a biological family, there is also a spiritual family. The difference is that one is inherited, the other chosen.
Your biological family may require you to attend certain religious places and offer various approaches to faith, but you have an active responsibility in the way you choose to relate to God. And that will influence the future of your home and your children.
I was listening to a chat between some mature Christian leaders a few weeks ago, and something that really caught my attention was when they talked about what they would do differently if they could go back in time. And one replied that he would better choose the church he attended while his children grew up. He realizes today that the Christian life experience for his family could have been much better if they were connected to a healthier faith community. Think about it.
More than ever now is the time to assess how you and your family have developed faith. And that necessarily goes through the community in which they are inserted, or are not inserted. You need a healthy spiritual family, committed to the Word of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. Not just to receive but to share.
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your countryand your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Genesis 12:1-3
Conclusion
There is only one true God. And he created us for a personal relationship with him. Yet, our entire family has a common part in our spirituality. What you believe about God and how you deal with it in your home will influence your whole life here and in eternity. So, decide today to accept God’s plan for your life and your entire family will be blessed with you.
You shall have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20:3
Prayer: God, I praise you and I recognize that you alone are God. I ask you please to help me live all your plans for my life and also that my family can experience more of you. I declare that I receive your Holy Spirit to help me know you and continue to know you, in the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?
