What is the use of making a lot of money if you are not taking advantage of it, if you are not at peace, or if your family is affected by the increase in your resources? Unfortunately this happens and it is very sad. In this post you will find the 3 main attitudes for great financial management in the family.
Prioritize God in Your Financial Management
The first clear direction that the Bible gives us in relation to money is that we must bring God a tenth of our income as a priority. This is called tithing.
Tithing should not be confused with our own money, as the Bible says that tithing belongs to the Lord. There are different arguments for a person who does not want to return 10% to the Lord, but none of them are reasonable.
Furthermore, you will never find a faithful person in the delivery of his tithes who is not grateful for this opportunity. This is due to God’s faithfulness. Our family has enjoyed blessings on our finances, health, children, and many other areas of our lives because we obey this principle. So, start prioritizing God in the financial management of your family. Practice love and justice without forgetting to tithe:
“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
Jesus, Luke 11:42
Live Generously
Second, the Bible says that God loves those who give with joy and also promises multiplication for those who practice generosity. This is not restricted to but includes your finances. Even when you don’t have much but decide to share it with your neighbor, God’s blessing will do much more than your own efforts could ever achieve.
The blessing means a supernatural action on your behalf. And it is proportional to your willingness to donate. So it is important that you practice generosity constantly for the benefit of everyone around you as well as your own.
The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22
Control Your Financial Management through a Budget
Finally, we need to remember that there is a relationship between human beings and money. You will either control your money, or your money will control you. Jesus warned us about Mammon, quoting a Hebrew word for wealth that expresses more than just money but refers to the evil spirit that works through him. Robert Morris says that Mammon is the spirit of the Anti-Christ.
This is a really serious matter. When you decide to honor God through your financial management, you can trust that He will also trust you more. The Bible says that he who is faithful about little will be placed over much. And for that, a budget is the tool that cannot be missing.
The budget is a plan or part of a financial plan. It identifies the expected values for income and expenses in the near future. In the case of a family, it is always easy to discover these values.
You can calculate the average financial income that you and your spouse have had in the past 3 months, and this is your family’s income. Identify your income, and divide that amount into balance to supply all the important areas for your family. Below I present the ideal values, which you can adjust to your reality and, from there, firmly control your budget:
10% >>> Tithes
10% >>> Donation (gifts, social action, honor, etc.)
10% >>> Education (children’s school, courses, and training)
10% >>> Investments (savings, direct treasury, investment funds, shares, according to your knowledge and investor profile)
10% >>> Leisure (restaurants, tours, parties and vacations)
50% >>> Needs (housing, transportation, communication, insurance, etc.)
If you only have a good idea of your finances for this month, you are on the wrong track. It is really necessary that the amount of money your family expects to receive and spend is written. And in addition, well controlled. When necessary, seek help and always keep improving your family’s financial management.
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Matthew 25:21
Conclusion
With that in mind, take the time to plan your budget and start making your money work for the good of your family. You will really be in control of your money and will be able to make the lives of the people around you much better. This will allow you to live generously and have the joy of blessing many others. And remember to start by prioritizing God in your finances, trusting Him, and giving Him thanks because everything belongs to Him and we are only His stewards.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Apostle Paul, Philippians 4:6
Prayer: God, I give you thanks because all things were created by You and belong to You. I thank you for all that You have entrusted to me and I pray that you will help me to become a good steward. I declare that I reject Mammon and I dedicate my finances to the Lord Jesus alone. And I thank You because You always provide more than I need and before I need it. I pray with thanksgiving in the name of Jesus. Amen.
What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?
