Daily Bread for a Happy New Year

Our family has high expectations for 2020. In addition to our gratitude for all that we lived together this past year, the arrival of the new decade is a time of radical changes for the best years of our lives. And I share in this post the 3 ingredients to make all this a reality in your life and family too.

Our Daily Bread

Bread in Portuguese, our first language, is pão. From this word we took the 3 ingredients to start our day in the best way: Palavra (Word), Adoração (Worship) and Oração (Prayer).

Since my teens these three elements are more important to me than the air I breathe. And I have found that this order is important for a healthy relationship with God and, consequently, for a meaningful and successful life.

After all, bread is a universal food. We eat bread in Brazil, the United States, Israel, China, and anywhere in the world. My prayer is that you learn not only this acrostic but the discipline of prioritizing God in your daily life by listening to his voice and expressing yourself before him in sincere praise and prayer.

Palavra | The Word of God

Just as wheat is the first and most important ingredient for bread, God’s Word is what truly gives us life. It is therefore crucial that the first words to come out of your mouth each morning are the Word of God. This is the standard for assertive advice and decisions that will keep your roots firm and well-nourished. Only from God’s Word will you enjoy bread that will feed your spirit and ensure abundant life for your entire family.

“To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.”

Psalms 119:96

Adoração | Worship

And whenever we contemplate the wonders of God’s words, we find out who he is, a spiritual and sincere expression comes from our hearts. Our role is to allow the flow of this river of wonder and gratitude to the glory of God. Take your precious time to stand in the presence of God (before his face) each morning.

Worship implies sacrifice, which is desirable and often expensive. This is the kind of adoration that God likes. You can give something to God without worshiping him, but you cannot worship him without offering him something precious. If he sees in you a heart surrendered to Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit, you will be worshiping very well!

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Jesus, Gospel of John 4:24

Oração | Prayer

And to conclude this recipe at the right point add prayer. Not that kind of ready praying, or religious speech learned from other people. Prayer is the means of communication that allows the highest level of sincerity in our lives. God who hears our prayers knows us far beyond our words, for he searches the hearts.

In his infinite kindness, he answers us when we ask for what we want. And whatever we ask in prayer with faith we will receive. But as you begin to ask in prayer according to God’s word, your life will reach another level of intimacy with him, satisfaction and peace. More important than praying for any reason is being in communion with God and developing a sincere relationship with Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Apostle Paul, Letter to the Philippians 4:6

Conclusion

Our best way to say Happy New Year to you and your family is by sharing these ingredients with which we start our days. Even before the bread on the table, God gives us bread to our spirit. And as your insides are well nourished, every fruit of your life will bless many people around you and so God will be glorified.

So prioritize God’s Word, Worship and Prayer and you will live your best years from now on. Happy 2020 and may this new year be the beginning of a decade of blessing and success for your whole family!

Prayer: God, I thank you for all that You are and for your good will toward me. I ask You to give me the daily bread everyday so I may live everything You have prepared for my family today and forever in the name of Jesus. Amen.
