God is good

Who God Is {Part 2} – God is Good

If you have a hard time accepting that God is good – always – and does good – only – then you are in serious trouble. The most important priority in your life is what you think about God. And recognizing the reality that he is good and does only good will radically change your journey here on earth and throughout eternity.

You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.

Psalms 119:68

In the previous post “Who God Is {Part 1} – He Is Eternal” we saw that from eternity to eternity He is God, great, unsearchable and incomparable. His transcendence is an invitation to satisfy our curiosity. Now in the second post of the “Who God Is” series we will see that the way we accept God’s goodness directly affects our lives.

Meditate on this post and leave your comment below, expressing your own understanding and experiences with God so far. I promise to review this text soon, answering your questions and appreciating your comment.

Good Father

The Bible reveals God to us through various metaphors. One is the good father. The figure of a true father already means a lot. The more a good father is a really strong example to express kindness. But still Jesus points out that such an analogy is limited.

He said that if we, being evil, know how to give good things to our children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give good things to those who ask. And he gives us his Holy Spirit so that we may know him in complete intimacy.

Much bigger than our brain can judge, his Spirit shows our spirit who he is. Knowing God is a spiritual process. It has little to do with your intellect and much to do with your heart.

Goodness of Heart

God is good and does good. He is the author of life, so generous and always patient. Do not escort your heart before him. You want to know him more and you will gradually discover him if you seek him with sincerity of heart.

When Moses asked him to show him his glory, God answered that he would pass all his goodness before him and proclaim his name before him. Usually when we meet a person, we first discover their name and then begin to discover more of their character and works.

Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

Exodus 33:18-19

The First Glimpse

The first attribute God made a point of showing in presenting himself more intimately to his servant was kindness. The initial glimpse was kindness. Then he said about revealing his own name to him.

When we think we have enjoyed God’s kindness and know that he is good, he has not even begun to present himself.

Have you ever sought to know God more intimately? Have you asked for a revelation of who he is and his kindness? Ask now and you will be surprised in the coming days.

Mission

God is totally good, and in him there is no particle of evil. His grace offers us the good we do not deserve. In this way, he sets himself on a mission to bless humanity. God is the first missionary. Although he is good regardless of us, he has chosen us as the target of his goodness. Thank God!

When the Father sent his son Jesus to reconcile us with himself through his death and resurrection, he was being good. This plan was old, existing since before the foundation of the world. And the truth is that he does not change. He’s good, same yesterday, today and forever.

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation — if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Apostle Peter, 1Peter 2:2-3

Good friend

If you want to become a child of God, you must accept the work of Jesus in your life by faith. Believe in your heart that he rose from the dead to save you and confess with your mouth that he is your lord. Then you can call God your father and enjoy all the blessings He offers you in Jesus.

You will be freed from all the guilt and weight of the past. And you will become God’s friend. One interesting thing I have learned from my walk with God is that although he calls me a friend, it does not mean a comfortable or loose relationship.

On the contrary, his kindness constrains me to a high level of respect, honor and submission to his will. And so I can live daily the best he has prepared for me and get to know him more and more.

I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.

Jesus, Gospel of John 15:15

Adoration and Gratitude

The Bible shows us that every person who chose to walk with God, which is the best available option in the universe, paid a high price for this position. Both before him, for he is sovereign God, and before the forces of evil, who insist on opposing everything that concerns God.

He is good. For this very reason, I do not come to his presence with complaint or disrespect speaking what I want. The proper way to address him each time I do so is with gratitude, adoration and thanksgiving. Each time I ask God less, and I thank him more, for I have discovered that he is good.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.

Psalms 136:1

He is Good and Does Good

When Rapha and I went to China a few years ago, part of the great experience we had there during two weeks of vacation was their ability to anticipate demands. In greeting people, they already offered us a chair to sit on, or showed us the prices of goods in stores. Many questions were answered before they were asked.

We understand that their difficulty in speaking in English was part of this communication facilitated by providing what they thought we needed. In God’s case, we have understood that his goodness benefits us even before we express or realize what we need as we live in a relationship of honor toward him.

Conclusion

God is good and does good. There is no evil with him. From this conclusion, decide to approach him with a sincere heart because he has already been kind in your life.

And the more you realize the truth about who God is, the more you will enjoy His goodness over your life and family. God is good and only does what is good.

Prayer: God, I thank you because You are good and your love endures forever. I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I receive him as my Lord. I ask that you reveal your kindness to me so that I may live in a way that glorifies your name today and always in the name of Jesus. Amen.
