This week we went to watch Toy Story 4 with our kids and we really enjoyed the movie. Unfortunately this kind of message about friendship, purpose of life and encouragement is rarity in theaters and books. It is unquestionable that most of what is produced and offered to children is garbage. Even worse, parents are paying for it. A common theme that has caused great harm to families is magic.
Science or Illusion?

While presenting as science or study, magic uses false arguments to instruct people to deception. It is based on occultism and illusion. Even in the tales, never a magician or a witch will have a happy ending.
The concept of magic ignores processes (which are proper to life naturally), encourages independence (path to loss) and is unsustainable (for only what God created lasts forever). And the main consequences for a person who engages in some kind of magic in real life are backsliding, poverty and rejection.
Magic, an enemy of faith
There is a clear distinction between genuine, biblical, healthy faith and the fantasy of magic. Just as the first is wholly beneficial, the latter is malignant in all respects. Magic is an enemy of faith. After insinuating that only those who have a special power or a magic formula can make a wonder happen, it discourages people from believing in miracles, processes, and the true supernatural act of God.

FAITH | FANTASY |
Firm foundation | Relative and imprecise |
Responsible | Inconsistent |
Comes from the truth | Comes from doubt of dissatisfaction |
Can be proven | Hypothesis |
Accompanied by good works | Accompanied by fear and disturbance |
Divine | Ancestors and entities are demons in disguise |
Results: Advancement, Wealth, Blessing | Results: Regress, Misery, Rejection |
Jimmy Evans proposes the theory of the wand: Once you use your magic wand around you, you would never need God again. The Creator knows that we need him more than anything, for we have been created for his glory. When God says that His grace is enough, we can rejoice in our weaknesses. We need no recourse, for in our weakness He strengthens us.
Closing the doors

But when families allow themselves to be influenced by magic, they get problems. Children have difficulties sleeping, they often get sick, they are scared easily. Parents, in turn, consider all this common to childhood. Usually they also suffered the same problems when they were small. After all, magic has permission in their homes and has already become part of their lives.
But it is not so in every house. There are families who enjoy peace, constant health and tranquility. And so it can be with your family if you simply understand the main cause of those disorders and decide to eliminate it from the culture of your home.
This is what Rapha and I chose before our children were born. We always stand against the bad influences that try to enter our house. I’m talking from movies and books to whatever kind of gift we get. You may consider exaggeration or extreme. But that was our decision and we did not give it up at all. On the contrary, we value more and more the limits that we have established in common agreement.
What the Bible says about magic

The Bible reports that many people who had some kind of contact with the occult knew the truth about Jesus. They gathered materials, especially their books, and burned them publicly. The updated value of the pieces is at least USD15,000. And this is not pointed out as radical or overkill. It is all about families that experienced God’s salvation and blessing over their homes. That’s what I’m talking about.
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.
Acts 19:19
This type of material continues to be produced and sold a lot. They fill the homes of people who do not perceive their disservice. The magic continues being offered in disguise, but more and more daring.
Trash in the trash
Last fall, our son Micael took some of his money, earned from his tasks, to buy something at the school’s book fair. When we saw what he had bought, he had already written on several pages, and would not be interesting to exchange it. It was a book and miniatures of the Harry Potter characters.
When Michael understood what it was about, I went with him to the dumpster late at night. He threw away the whole kit because he already knows that this kind of stuff is not welcome in our house. What made him choose that book were the toy persons that came along. Although it cost so much of his money, he acknowledged that he did not choose well. The next day, I gave him money and he got another kit, this time from Lego.
Magic and her sisters
Thus, at first we teach our children the truth of the Word of God on its subject. Then they themselves develop discernment. But we all need to be together to maintain a healthy growth environment. Do not allow what is harmful to enter inside your home. Reject all that disturbs the Holy Spirit of God, and your home will be a place of peace and blessing.
For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.
Deuteronomy 18:10-11
This was the guidance that God gave to the Israelites, and that serves our families perfectly. Everything that is disgusting to God is also disgusting to our family. Magic is considered by the Bible as witchcraft, mediumship, child sacrifice, all in the same category. God clearly warns us not to accept any of these practices!
Magic, not here
Note that I am not speaking against Disney, or denying the beauty of the arts and what is excelente. We already went in the parks and we really enjoyed watching shows and going to the movies. But all that is obscure, ugly and false is what the Bible points us to reprove, for our own good. So stories like The Adams Family or The Princess and the Frog and toys like unicorns are not welcome in our family.
In fact, you will be protected and free from any evil influence once you have positioned yourself as the Word of God guides you. Everyone will want to know what makes your family so special, healthy and happy. And you can reveal that your family likes light, truth and only that which has the blessing of God.
Conclusion
In the same way good deeds are plainly seen, and even those that are not so plain cannot be hidden.
Apostle Paul, 1Timothy 5:25
Want to help your children? Want to see your home transformed into an environment of peace and safety?
For your story to have a successful sequel you need to embrace faith as opposed to any kind of fantasy. Then, root out the illusion of magic. And invite Jesus to come into your heart and turn your family’s way.
Prayer: God, thank you for your love that never leaves me lost. When you open my eyes to the truth, I will never be deceived again. Therefore, I reject all magic and all deceit of darkness. I thank you for bringing light into my life so that my whole family may enjoy peace, protection and blessing in the name of Jesus. Amen.
