Long life is a common wish of all people. With the technological breakthrough including recent discoveries in the field of genetics, the estimate of life becomes ever greater. In addition, raising awareness about healthy habits and adopting new lifestyles makes men and women prolong their ages.

Invest in healthy eating and quality sleep
I remember when I was a kid I loved to pick fruit from the trees and eat them on the spot. Guava was the most common. It also had acerola, mango, plum, persimmon, jatubicaba, etc … In the yard of my grandmother had a count, which was a rarity. My grandfather wrapped the green bananas in newspaper to mature them. This is a privilege for those who live far from the huge urban centers.

Today when I go to Walmart, I can choose from many available fruits, but they look like plastic. They are perfect in form but false in some way. The concept of organic food grows although there is no scientific proof of its superiority.
If you want to enjoy long life, you need to eat very well
This means balancing foods, varying colors, avoiding excess salt, and cutting out sugar. Have you ever stopped to think that your body does not need sugar? Aside from not doing well, it does harm to your health. So why do we consume so much sugar? I know … for pleasure to the palate. But this short-term pleasure does not match long and healthy life.
My grandfather had all those fruits, as well as fresh vegetables. But he liked to eat red meat and fat. He used to say that who eats green is cow. I remember how he liked to eat bologna and canned sausage. He died early and I have no doubt that his poor diet was the main cause. He was a strong man, hardworking, but his plate did not fit with a long life.
I will not go into detail here on nutrition. But I want to call your attention to the importance of a complete and balanced diet for health and longevity. Eating is a type of long-term investment. Find out what fits your diet best. Ask for help from a specialist if necessary. Inquire and change your eating habits so that you live well and enough.
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.”Isaiah 1:19

In addition, quality sleep is critical to body recovery. While we sleep, our body and soul renew to the new daily challenges. The immunity of the body is also strongly related to rest. Therefore, sleep is an incisive factor when it comes to long life and quality.
Our kids always slept very well. We believe they have great health because of the rest we have given them since they were born. In our house, they never watched TV or heard loud music after 8 o’clock at night. Rare exceptions happened at grandparents’ homes or at special events that last until a little later.
We have always been very careful to protect our children’s sleep as well as our own.
Now think of a person who lived many years and lived well. This person fed and slept well during his lifetime. This is undeniable. Therefore, I invite you to adjust your diet and sleep to a better life.
“When I lie down, I go to sleep in peace; you alone, O LORD, keep me perfectly safe.”Psalm 4:8
Discover meditation as a source of inspiration and longevity
Another way to gain quality of life is through the practice of meditation. Unfortunately, many do not appreciate this practice because of the false teachings of modern religions and sporting activities that focus on the human being. But true meditation is the way to a healthy spirituality that will result in benefits to the soul and the physical.
The Bible says we should meditate day and night. Just like a manufacturer’s manual to better understand and make correct use of equipment, the Bible is the revelation for the long and successful life of the human being. It is the Word of God, written by men inspired by Him to guide us. It is not a book for religious practice, as many mistakenly label it.
“My teaching will give you a long and prosperous life.”Proverbs 3:2
If you have never read the Bible, do not judge or despise it. You will not want to lose the wealth, beauty and power that such an accessible book can add to your life and family.
Another important thing is that biblical meditation should not be mental but spoken. Always ask God for help you in understanding the reading, and then read aloud. I can tell you in all truth that after completing the Bible reading in about a year you will realize that your life has been radically transformed. Supernatural wisdom and deep revelations will make you stronger spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
“But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.”Deuteronomy 30:14
Honor your father and mother. The first commandment with promise
Long life is also a promise from God for those who honor their parents. That’s because how it everything begins determines how everything ends. Parents are the first representation of the person of God in the life of a child. Even after adults, when we leave our parents’ home, the Bible teaches us the honor we owe them.
“Honor your father and mother — which is the first commandment with a promise — so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”Ephesians 6:2,3
I see it this way: my parents did so much for me; I will never be able to repay however much I do for them. My parents did it first. They paid a price which, only when I became a father, I began to discover. They deserve honor.
This term is out of date in our society. The Bible in some modern translations, like Good News Bible, uses the term respect. Perhaps they chose it to convey the more common term. But honor is well above respect.
Danny Silk defines the concept of honor well as “accurately recognizing who the people are by giving them what they deserve and receiving from them the gift of who they are in our lives.
Honor is a value of heaven, noble and precious. It always walks along with faith and demonstrates itself through a life of integrity, humility, and wisdom.
A decision for a better life here on earth and in eternity
